Dual Language Education (also called Two-Way Bilingual Immersion or Two-Way Immersion) combines the best of bilingual education for language minority students and immersion education for language majority students.
The Dual Language program at Rowlett integrates English and non-English speakers in the same classroom to learn a second language. Our goals for the program are as follows:
1.Fluency in communication and literacy in both languages,
2.Academic achievement in all subject areas according to Florida's benchmarks.
3.Acceptance and appreciation of other cultures while providing a positive attitude towards their peers, families, and communities.
4.All children who participate in the Dual Language Program beginning in kindergarten are expected to be able to read, write, and speak basic Spanish by 5th grade.
All children in regular classrooms receive instruction with a language teacher multiple times per week (Alternating A/B schedules). "Español Para Ti" and the "Viva el Español! " curricula are used as a foundation for the Spanish program. Children receive regular assessments of their progress reported to parents on quarterly progress reports.
The Dual Language "Maestras" (Teacher) partner with our Arts Team to produce an amazing Hispanic Heritage event. The 2018 event can be viewed here.
