Welcome to Reading Intervention!
Welcome to Reading Intervention! My name is Mrs. DuBois and I will be teaching reading groups this year with students in third-fifth grade! I will be working closely with intermediate teachers to monitor areas of need and to incorporate areas of strength. Our goal with intervention is to help struggling readers grow develop strategies to take back into the classroom and into their own reading.
We will be using a curriculum program from Fountas & Pinnell: Leveled Literacy Intervention. In this program, students will be re-reading previously read books and reading new books to increase their fluency (rate, accuracy and tone), while learning new comprehension strategies. In addition, students will be working on word work (structure and mechanics of words) and writing about our reading. "LLI turns struggling readers into successful readers with engaging leveled books and fast-paced, systematically designed lessons." For more information on this program, http://www.fountasandpinnell.com/lli/
During their time in group, students will be encouraged to use close reading strategies, where we will complete a reading multiple times, with each time serving a different purpose. This strategy will allow for students to move from working within the text (who, what, when, where) to beyond the text (how, why) in their comprehension.
Below, you will find two PDF Parent Guides from The Florida Department of Education. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me anytime. I am looking forward to a great year with some amazing students!
