Rowlett Academy Students Collaborate with Ringling College Artists on Mural Project

Creativity and collaboration are taking center stage at Rowlett Academy as elementary students begin work on an exciting mural project in partnership with Ringling College of Art and Design.

This unique collaboration gives Rowlett's young artists the opportunity to work side by side with Ringling College students, learning new techniques, sharing ideas, and contributing to a lasting piece of artwork for their school community.

The project currently involves four Ringling College students and 77 Rowlett students in grades 3–5, with additional young artists expected to participate as the painting schedule develops.

Students from Art Club, the Student Lighthouse Team, Visual Arts, and Illustration Primary Focus classes will participate in small-group painting sessions alongside the college students. Each Rowlett artist will have approximately 30 minutes of hands-on painting time with a Ringling student, providing opportunities for individualized guidance, artistic exploration, and mentorship.

Beyond creating a beautiful mural, the project offers students a chance to experience the collaborative nature of the arts while connecting with emerging artists pursuing their passion at the college level.

As an arts-focused public charter school, Rowlett Academy is committed to providing meaningful experiences that extend learning beyond the classroom. Partnering with the internationally recognized Ringling College of Art and Design brings that commitment to life, offering elementary students an opportunity to learn directly from college-level artists and envision their own creative possibilities.

A special thank you to Rowlett art teacher Brittany Gerren and Rachel Levey-Baker, Ringling College's Associate Dean for Community Engaged Learning, for spearheading this exciting partnership and creating such a memorable opportunity for our students.

We look forward to watching the mural take shape as our young artists continue to contribute their creativity, one brushstroke at a time!
